General Weight Loss Tips
Everyone is looking for a magic pill
that can help them effortlessly lose weight. The experts will
tell you that there is no such pill and that the best way to lose
weight is through diet and exercise.
Unfortunately, this is basically
true. However, there are ways that you can go about diet and exercise
so that you can get off easy.
In general, most diets fail. This
is due to the rigorous demands that are made by the diet itself
or by the yo-yo effect that is created by dieting. The way to
beat this is to give yourself some leverage by using a specific
diet or weight loss plan and sticking to it. Using some type of
diet pills might help you to get started and may also help you
stick to your diet and avoid the yo-yo effect.
Sticking to an exercise plan can
also be a tough road to hoe if you are attempting to go it alone.
There are a few things that you can do to help make sure that
you stick to your exercise routines.
One thing that you can do is to buy
one of the exercise and fitness machines that are shown above.
Not only will this exercise equipment be able to help you slim
down by burning calories and strengthening your muscles, it can
also help to keep you motivated. After all, you will certainly
feel like you need to get your money's worth. It would be a waste
to buy exercise equipment only to have it end up being an unsightly
piece of furniture.
Going on this same principle, you
could also get a gym membership. You will feel guilty for not
going to the gym since you are paying a monthly fee. You can use
this guilt to motivate you. At the gym you can also find a host
of support options. This can come from personal trainers or just
from people that you meet when you go there to do your workouts.
Another way to make sure that you
continue to get enough exercise is to vary your routines. You
might find that a variety of exercise routines can keep you interested
enough so that you will stick to it until you can lose a significant
amount of weight. For instance, you can run one day and play tennis
the next. The following day you might go on a hike. Spend the
next day at the gym and the following day you can use your home
exercise equipment. You should also try to get in more walking
whenever you can. Just be sure that you are up to the task. Check
with your doctor before you begin any type of exercise program
or routine.
My Plan
I don't personally use any type of
specific diet. Certain diets do work but for me, I like to have
a lot of freedom when it comes to planning meals. I just try to
limit the amount of calories that I take in per day and I try
to get most of those calories toward the beginning of the day.
It is best to spread out your meals throughout the day though.
Try to have 5-7 small meals per day with the majority of your
calorie consumption near the beginning of your day. I try not
to eat after 6pm. If you work nights or don't have a typical 9-5
job then you will just need to adjust this time schedule so that
it naturally fits into your routine.
For exercise, on monday, wednesday
and friday I ride my stationary bike at home. On tuesday, thursday
and saturday I take a brisk walk for about 30 minutes. At least
3 times per week I try to get out and play some basketball, tennis
or golf. Sunday is a day off and I also end up taking in a few
more calories on sunday. It gives me something to look forward
to.
In general you will have to find
your own routine that works best for your particular needs and
circumstances. Don't be afraid to try something new. Once you
are determined to lose weight, pick a plan and stick to it. If,
after awhile, you find that it is just not working for you then
don't hesitate to pick a new plan and then stick to that. Your
weight loss goals and the success that you have in losing weight
is directly proportional to the amount of determination that you
have.
Common sense says that you should
not put all of your eggs in one basket. You should attack your
weight loss goals from many angles. This will give you a better
chance at success. A combination of diets, dieting, diet plans,
diet aids and will power combined with a multitude and variety
of exercise options that are used with a high level of determination
will help you to lose weight.
For example, at first I just couldn't
believe that I wasn't losing weight. I was riding my exercise
bike for 30 minutes a day, 3 days per week. I was sticking to
a low calorie diet. After a month of this, I found that I had
gained 2 pounds. What a huge disappointment tha was!
What I had to do was just step it
up a notch. For some people, what I described above would be enough
so that they would have at least lost a couple of pounds instead
of gaining weight. For me, this just wasn't enough.
So, I added some light weight resistance
training and started walking to supplement my exercise bike training.
I also cut my calories a little and broke up my meals so that
I was eating 7 meals per day and not eating after 6pm. A month
later I had lost 3 pounds.
For me, this was better but still
not exactly what I had in mind. So, I added basketball, tennis
and golf. I also loaded my calorie intake to the beginning of
my day. This was enough so that the next time I stepped on the
scales, a month later, I had lost 5 pounds. This seemed like a
pretty good pace for me.
Losing weight any faster than that
could be bad for your health. Do make sure that you talk to your
doctor before you start any diet or exercise routine. Your overall
health is much more important than losing a few vanity pounds.
Yes, losing weight can be good for your health but it has to be
done in a safe fashion.
